Did you know that a third of all food produced ends up in the trash? We all probably know it too well when our eyes are once again larger than our stomachs, and various foods slowly lose their crispness or beautiful color. Even though these foods may no longer look as appealing as they did at the beginning, they are definitely far too good for the bin.
In today's blog post, we want to show you how to use up different food scraps and integrate them into your breakfast and turn them into new dishes. Because recycling old leftovers is not only sustainable and good for your wallet, but also tastes delicious.
To make it easier for you to keep your food scraps to a minimum in the future, we have come up with 3 tips that will help you avoid and reduce food scraps going forward.
3 tips to avoid and reduce food waste:
- To better plan your grocery shopping and quantities, you can put together a weekly meal plan. This not only helps you reduce leftovers but also contributes to the versatility of your food. With your weekly plan, you can then shop in a targeted way and thus avoid spontaneous purchases.
- To throw away as little as possible, you can try out new recipes and look for inspiration for new creations. You will be surprised at the delicious dishes that can be conjured up from just a few leftovers.
-
Process dishes that you've cooked too much of; for example, you can easily convert them and turn into new dishes. Plus, you can freeze them, making them last longer and enjoy them later without a guilty conscience.

Turn old leftovers into a whole new delicious dish.
1. Incorporate various fruit leftovers into your breakfast
Fruit that has turned brown or is just not so crisp anymore can easily be integrated into smoothies, for example, with our Sport Shake. You can also turn old fruit into a tasty fruit salad. You can grate old apples, for example, and mix them into a cake or muffin dough, which will also make your cake nice and juicy. In general, you can always use various fruit leftovers when baking, as the fruit becomes softer during the baking process anyway.
You can also easily integrate your fruit scraps into your morning warm porridge; for example, you can grate or chop old fruit and add it to your pot when boiling.
2. Brown bananas – outside pfui, inside hui
You can also use bananas that have already turned brown without hesitation. They are incredibly sweet and are therefore suitable for both cooking and baking instead of a sweetener. For example, you can crush them with a fork and mix them into the dough for banana bread or other cakes. In addition, you can also use browned bananas in muffins or put them in a blender together with some milk or homemade plant drink and process them into banana milk.
3. Turn various vegetables into new dishes
The remains of carrots, zucchini, or a pumpkin are particularly suitable for further processing as a cake, tart, or quiche. You can also prepare summer rolls from various vegetable leftovers. You can also quickly and easily prepare a spread from old leftovers.
You need 300 g of raw vegetable leftovers, 70 g of onions, 40 ml of oil, a heaped teaspoon of tomato paste, half a teaspoon of salt, and 3 pinches of pepper. You shred the raw food leftovers on a high level in a blender. Then add the oil and roast the vegetables on low heat for 15 minutes. Then transfer your homemade vegetable spread into a small glass, and you can enjoy your homemade spread.
4. Reuse old bread
Old bread scraps can be cut into small cubes and sautéed in the pan with a little butter or oil. This way, you can quickly conjure up homemade croutons from the old bread leftovers to go with soups and salads. Even bread that has become hard does not have to end up in the compost.
5. Reinterpret rice scraps
It is easy to misjudge the amount when preparing rice, as it swells when cooked. Fortunately, rice is very versatile: you can prepare a rice salad, a rice pan, or even a sweet rice dish. For a change, you can also prepare a sweet porridge with rice by mixing the rice with some milk and refining it with various spices.
Create a new breakfast from leftovers
You can also prepare a completely new breakfast from various leftovers. You can easily use soft fruit in the form of a crumble or prepare delicious muffins from it. You can conjure up a delicious porridge from various leftovers of oatmeal and various kernels and seeds, and with old vegetable leftovers, you can create a Buddha Bowl for breakfast.
This is how you can easily make your food last longer
To recycle leftovers, you can also freeze or boil various fruits and vegetables, for example. Berries, for example, are particularly suitable for this, as our local berries are only in season for about 4 months of the year. You can find out how to best freeze berries here. You don't have to throw away already cooked food if you have prepared too much. You can easily freeze it and thaw it again at a later time and enjoy.
